Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition on Windows 7

Been awhile since my last post. So a fun one is needed. Recently got a hankering to play Duke 3D which is from the DOS/Windows 98 days.  The author open sourced the engine years ago and since then High Resolution Packs were introduced to bring the graphics up to date. The steps listed below just show you how simple it was to be able to play Duke 3D and bring it up to date.

First we have to download HRP pack from http://hrp.duke4.net/download.php and select the Polymer HRP v5.0 FULL SFX (656 MB) Use the Duke4.net or the Megaupload links. The file will be named dn3d_hrp5-sfx.exe.

Double click on dn3d_hrp5-sfx.exe to C:\eduke32\autoload. Once the extraction is completed copy the duke3d.grp and duke3d.rts from your Atomic edition to c:\eduke32\duke3d. Double click on c:\eduke32\eduke32.exe and this will bring up the eduke32 interface. In the Custom game content directory select autoload and you will now have the HRP enabled and ready. Click start to play Duke 3D.

Now this was just the first of several posts for getting other classics (Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem 2, etc..). Look for more to come.

I am glad you find it informative. I will be continuing to post to the blog with information that is hard to find and not the usual posting.

Im impressed, I need to say. Quite hardly ever do I come across a weblog thats both informative and entertaining, and let me let you know, youve hit the nail on the head. Your weblog is crucial; the issue is something that not enough men and women are talking intelligently about. Im definitely happy that I stumbled across this in my search for some thing relating to this concern.

I am glad the information is useful and brings a chuckle. Check back from time to time as there is alot more coming on many topics that are hard to find on the net.

Glad you like the tip, I love playing the old games, so I will be posting how to get them running as well as topics on Multimedia (DVD, Audio restoration) and lots of scripts and using the computer to do fun things other than basics you find everywhere else.
