How To Add a Banner or Legal Notification Display to Windows 2003 – 2012

So you want to add a Legal notification or banner notification on your Windows servers. There is a very easy way to accomplish this by making a simple change of two keys in the registry. This process works on Windows 2003 – 2012.

Select Start > Run > then type “regedit” and press the Enter key.
Expand the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Policies > System
The next step will invole the modifiaction of two keys

LegalNoticeCaption – The title of the pop-up menu
LegalNoticeText- the message content

These two keys are located in the right pane. Double click on them and edit the value field to your convenience.

Once you logout and back in again you will now have your notices displayed.
